How is a month laid out?

Rows = the weeks the month touches: (the days of its first week that belong to the month before + the days in the month) ÷ 7, rounded up, so a month needs 4, 5 or 6 rows. Each day box is the grid’s width ÷ 7 wide and its height ÷ the rows tall.

Worked example. August 2026 starts on a Saturday, so in a week that starts on Sunday 6 days of its first row belong to July. It has 31 days: (6 + 31) ÷ 7 = 5.3, which rounds up to 6 rows. On US Letter landscape with 10 mm margins the grid is 259.4 mm wide, so each day box is 37.1 mm across.

A month to a page, or the whole year

Pick a month and a year and the calendar redraws as you type. “How many months” prints up to twelve in a row, each on its own page, so one print gives you a wall calendar for the year, a term, or the months up to a deadline. A link copied from the page keeps your settings, so next month is one change away.

Holidays, marked the right way

The US format marks the eleven federal holidays set by 5 U.S.C. 6103, from New Year’s Day to Christmas Day, under their everyday names. When one falls on a Saturday, federal employees get the Friday before off, and on a Sunday the Monday after; the calendar shows that day as “(observed)”. The UK format marks the bank holidays of England and Wales, matched against GOV.UK’s published dates, with the substitute day when Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day lands on a weekend.

Planning a whole year? Print it as one planner

The Pack Builder puts a year on one page, twelve monthly pages and a page for every week of the year into one print, with your name or title on every page and no credit line, for US$9 once. Add lined, dot or grid pages in between and it is a planner nobody else has.

Questions about printable calendars

How do I print a calendar that fills the page?

Choose the paper you will print on (US Letter or A4), then press “Print or save as PDF” and set the scale to Actual size or 100%. The calendar is drawn to that exact page, so nothing is cut off and nothing shrinks. Landscape gives the widest day boxes and portrait the tallest; note lines fit under either.

Can I start the week on Monday?

Yes. The UK format starts weeks on Monday, and “Week starts on” lets you pick Sunday, Monday or Saturday for either format. Week numbers follow ISO 8601, the standard most of Europe uses.

Which holidays are on the calendar?

In the US format, the 11 federal holidays, with the federal day off marked “(observed)” when a holiday falls on a weekend. In the UK format, the bank holidays of England and Wales (8 days off in 2027), with substitute days; Scotland and Northern Ireland have different ones. Holidays are marked from 1978 in the US format and from 2013 in the UK one. Untick “Show holidays” for a plain calendar.

Can I print the whole year?

Yes. Set “How many months” to 12 and you get twelve pages, one month each, starting from the month you chose, so a calendar can run from September to August as easily as January to December. For the year on a single page, use the yearly calendar.

Can I write on it?

That is what it is for. The day boxes are blank under the date, “Note lines” adds ruled lines under the grid, and the grey days of the months either side can be switched on for planning across a month’s edge.
